"Silver Treasure"
Lying close to Alva town, Silver Glen is named after the abundant silver reserves which were discovered here in the early years of the 18th Century. Sir Issac Newton analyzed some ore samples mined here and found them to be extremely rare and precious. Today, traces of the ore are difficult to find as mineral collectors have worked over the dumps. Towards the end of the 20th Century, some specimens of dendtritic silver in crystallized form were discovered here. Since the glen contains many open shafts, it is not completely safe to explore the shafts without any experience.
