"Spectacular Ceramic Treasures"
The ceramics collection of Mi Museo is almost shocking in all that it offers : the artistic and archaeological treasures range from 2000 BCE. until present day, and march along the walls in cubes of glass atop pedestals that make staircase silhouettes along the gallery walls. Look for designs of monkeys, jaguars, serpents, and crocodiles on the pieces, each animal having a different meaning in the belief systems of the potters who created this work. Items range from quotidian dishes atop a tripod of tapered legs to rare ritual items; big funerary urns line the walls around the interior courtyard, their sides bulging out in an approximation of pregnant women's bellies representing indigenous beliefs about the cycle of life. Upon entering, visitors are treated to a complimentary guided tour with knowledgeable staff - an opportunity not to be missed.
