Twisted Oak

Opened in 2001, the Twisted Oak Winery is a family-run winery. Its scenic location and serene surroundings make for a pleasant day trip; the views from the Sierra Foothills are surely worthy of a visit. Twisted Oak offers wines from fine grape varieties like Roussanne, Viognier, Syrah and Tempranillo. The grapes are locally sourced from the nearby vineyards and it offers both red and white wines. And, before going ahead with your wine shopping, you can sample their wines at the on-site tasting room or its other location, namely the Murphys Tasting Room. The Twisted Oak Winery is open to one and all, and even welcomes pets. Occasionally, it also hosts concerts and similar other events that are simply an invite to indulge in good food and wine. Veterans Memorial Hall & Military Museum

Set in a red-bricked building, Veterans Memorial Hall and Military Museum opened its doors in 1933. This museum is dedicated to veterans who served the country during different wars that were fought since World War I. It features various documents, medals, uniforms, weapons, tools and personal items that were owned by them. It also features photographs and names of brave soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the country.

Indigeny Reserve

Opened in 2012, Indigeny Reserve is run by the Watson family. With organic apples sourced from their 160-acre (64.7 hectares) orchard, this distillery and cidery offers a wide range of ciders, vodkas and brandy. They host guided tours and tasting sessions at their state-of-the-art facility. They also offer space to host private events and parties.

Dragoon Gulch Trail

Set along the forests of Mother Lode, the 3.1-mile (4.9-kilometer) long Dragoon Gulch Trail features several paths. This scenic trail can be accessed through Woods Creek Trailhead and Alpine Trailhead. Hike along this pathway and explore the region’s stunning flora and fauna. With shaded paths, this trail is perfect for children and pets.

Downtown Sonora

The heart of the town and a wonderful neighborhood to explore, Downtown Sonora is a lively place that certainly merits a visit. Its thoroughfare is the beautiful Washington Street, which is lined with a bevy of eateries, shops, galleries, saloons, museums and bakeries. Railtown 1897 State Historic Park

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers visitors the opportunity to board historic locomotives as they trundle along the scenic surrounds of Jamestown and its environs. Step back in time through delightful rail excursions or visit the facilities located onsite to gain a deeper insight into the railway history and heritage of the region. Several of these remarkable trains have also featured in Hollywood productions such as High Noon, Wild, Wild West, and Little House on the Prairie among others.
