"Public Park"

Over the years, Park Morzan, a green space in the heart of Guatemala city has seen several changes. The park has been renamed multiple times over the years and is known as Park Morzan, Park Jocotenago and Park Estrada Cabrera. Through the years, several projects to restore the beauty of the park have been undertaken. The park is a wonderful public space with tranquil places to sit and enjoy the scenery, as well as a lovely kids playground. Intricately linked with the history of the city, the site of the park was a square, once a thriving center of commerce of the Town of Indians Jocotenango, however all of the architecture and infrastructure was destroyed, the only remnants are documentary photos. After the building of the Avenida Racetrack close by, it became a major thoroughfare. It was in 1907 that the area was officially designated as a park, and the beautiful gardens designed by Luis Augusto Fontaine and the site for several monuments, busts and statues like Christopher Columbus, Frederico Morzan and Betthhoven; few of which remain here today.
