Established in 1963 as the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts, the building that it occupied was constructed in 1937 as a boarding house, while the next house was a colony meant for artists. The museum now houses a decent collection of early 21st and late 20th Century CE artworks which also include abstract paintings. The themes used in the art are more or less on issues relating to martyrdom, strategy and patriotism.
