Hotel Nacional De Cuba

Occupying an entire block in the centrally located Vedado district, this is arguably one of Havana's most famous hotels. The establishment's impressive surroundings are somewhat eclipsed by its decorative lobby, adorned with ornamental tiles, sculptures and a singular architectural style. Built in 1930 and renovated in 1962, some of the hotel's more celebrated guests have included Sir Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra and supermodel Naomi Campbell. Often used for local conferences, it is also the venue for Havana's annual New Latin American Film Festival. The rooms are quite large with decoration kept to a minimum.

Hotel Presidente

As soon as you enter through the door of this hotel, you will be struck by the extreme elegance of its interior decoration. Furniture dating from the early 20th Century surrounded by exuberant tropical plants is complimented by porcelain ornaments, marble-covered floors and the grand salons. The general ambiance is peaceful; one might say almost intimate. It is an ideal choice for newlyweds, but equally fitting for families or even business travelers thanks to its excellent location.

Hotel Inglaterra

This is a small but luxurious hotel, offering a variety of services as well as a fine view out over the city's Parque Central. On the main floor there is a 20-table restaurant where a meal comes to around USD20 per person. A saloon and grill bar are also at hand. An art gallery operates within the establishment and most of the staff speak English. This is one of Cuba's oldest and most prestigious hotels, and is well-placed within the city, a short stroll away from some of Havana's favorite bars and restaurants.

Hotel Meliá Habana

This luxury hotel is located in the Miramar district, a short walk from the center of Havana, halfway between the airport and the old historic quarter. The surroundings are quite peaceful, offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Rooms are lavishly decorated and fully equipped. Because the hotel faces the sea, visitors have a privileged view out over the bay area. Large swimming pools provide the ideal place to relax and sunbathe, or one can rest in the shade of the numerous ornamental plants.

Hotel Santa Isabel

This hotel is housed within a charming colonial building facing Havana Bay, the former Conde de Santovenia Palace. Facing the entrance is a small square full of second-hand booksellers where one can purchase all sorts of classical revolutionary prose, all in perfect condition. The hotel's rooms are comfortable and lavishly decorated, and it was within this very establishment that Pope John Paul II stayed when he visited the island in 1998. The city's Catedral (La) is a short walk away.

Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havane

Built in 1908 and completely renovated in 1993, this Old Havana hotel is perhaps one of the loveliest residences in the city. The great lobby is enhanced by beautiful ceramic tiles, and the tastefully decorated bedrooms are adorned with elegant colonial furniture. The hotel also houses Havana's School of Tourism, one of the reasons why service is so good. A photographic gallery can also be found in the lobby, which illustrates key moments in Cuban history.
