Constructed in the year 1856, Dale Fort was erected to combat Napoleon III's forces from attacking Britain's west coast. Dale Fort has been in use from Elizabethan era till today and its main structures were designed to protect Milford Haven in the 19th Century. Presently, Field Studies Council administers the fort as a field facility used by several students every year. Many biologists visit the fort to understand the neighboring ecology.
