"Quiet Picnic and Hiking Spot"
Manuka State Wayside is a wonderful spot to enjoy nature. The area is shady and offers restrooms, a camping area and an enjoyable hiking trail. The hike is an easy two mile loop that features lava flows, a pit crater, island flora and fauna and the occasional native bird, wild boar or goat. The trail begins near the parking lot. Signs mark the trailhead entrance. Please note that mountain biking is not allowed on this trail and there is no fresh water available. Bring along mosquito repellent since they are omnipresent, especially after it rains. The Wayside is open during daylight hours.
