Huntly Castle

by pathlost

"Thirteenth Century Castle"

This is a traditional castle with a long bloody history, stretching back to 1307 when Robert the Bruce stayed here before defeating the Earl of Buchan in battle. Much of the building is now in ruins but there is a good example of a 15th Century keep in good condition. The castle has been plundered and fought over many times down the years, before it was finally garrisoned by Hanoverian troops during the last rebellion, and then abandoned. In 1923, the castle was cleared of all the old rubbish that had been dumped there and now houses an interesting exhibition.
