"Historical Suburb"
Early settlers discovered the fertile soil of New Town and built their cottages near the rivulet, which was the only source of fresh water. The settlers held picnic races for many years, and established a racecourse in 1831. Augusta Road was originally a track to Sassafras Valley where Lady Franklin built the Greek-style Lady Franklin Gallery. The gallery-museum is worth a visit, as is Runnymede House.
