"Home of The Midnight Sun"

The mystical landscape of the Urho Kekkonen National Park sprawls across 2550 square kilometers (985 square miles) of the Lapland region, bounded by the municipalities of Savukoski, Sodankylä, and Inari. Founded in the year 1983, this park is one of the biggest nature reserves of Finland. The diverse topography of the park is governed by a collage of landscapes formed by ravines, wetlands, gorges and rolling moors. Alpine hills, mires and gushing streams add to its unique panorama. Home to the Suomujoki River, the park is a thriving colony for reindeer, elk, arctic fox and brown bears, who can be seen traipsing along the rugged terrain of the park. Urho Kekkonen also sees magical skies when the auroras visit in the winter, and the dim light of the Midnight Sun keeps the park radiantly lit in the summer.
