Established in 1946, the Broad Ripple Park area has served the community in a variety of ways over the years, including being home to an amusement park and hosting Olympic tryouts. Today the area is a park and recreational area with a swimming pool, playground, picnic area, tennis courts, athletic fields, dog park, boat ramp to the adjacent White River, a wooded area, and a half-mile unpaved fitness trail. Picnic shelters are available for rent. The Family Center offers a list of classes and activities for all ages.
Hosting a range of themed events which cater to families and groups of friends alike, this skating rink attracts roller skating experts as well as amateurs looking to experiment with the popular recreational activity. Skateland Roller Skating has established itself as a thriving center for the sport, drawing droves of rollerblading aficionados with its fun activities and lessons for beginners. The indoor rink is also available for rental purposes and makes provisions for private events and sessions.
North Side Optimist Opti-Park may have an unusual name but there is nothing unusual about it. This green space may not be exactly in the heart of the city center, but its charming location in Broad Ripple village makes it popular with locals who stop by for some fresh air. Weekends and holidays during summer are perhaps the best time to come when you can catch a live concert or some community events and festivities being celebrated here.
The Skiles Test Nature Park that is spread over 80.91 acres of land, is a great area of natural resources and wildlife habitat. Featuring trails, forest areas, park and plantation areas, the park is a great historic place that exhibits history of the place. Bird watching is the most famous activity here which is enjoyed by all elders and young crowd. The park is a great place to visit which is accessible from dawn to dusk.
