Perched atop a mountain, the Sphinx Observatory might look precarious but it is sturdy as a rock. Built in 1937 for research purposes, it has a weather observation station, huge labs, a workshop, two decks for scientific analysis and a meteorological and astronomical dome. It is owned and run by Sphinx AG Jungfraujoch and is used to study meteorology, glaciology, radiation, cosmic rays, astronomy and physiology. This beautiful structure's exterior decks and glass house are open to visitors through the year. Though it is in a secluded location, it is accessible via Europe's highest railway, the Jungfraujoch railway, through a mountain tunnel that brings visitors to an elevator. This elevator takes visitors to the summit where the observatory is located. The small viewing platform offers a panoramic view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, the Monch, Eiger and Jungfrau peaks, and glimpses of peaks located in Germany and Italy.

Legend surrounding the St. Beatus Caves, found near the lakes of Interlaken, says that a dragon took refuge at the site while being hunted by a 16th-century monk. Climbing up a breathtaking 3,505 meters (11,500-feet) with stops at three stations, this inclined railway passes through some of the most beautiful places in the canton of Bern. This scenic attraction is one of the highest and longest funiculars in the world, and considered to be one of the most extreme versions of its kind, given the steep slopes that it traverses on its journey to the top of Niesen mountain. It is estimated that at certain times during its journey skyward, the funicular reaches a gradient of 68%, which means that it is a very steep journey indeed. Visitors who take the funicular all the way to the top can take in breathtaking views from its highest station, which sits at a stunning elevation of 2,336 meters (7,664 feet).

The glaciers melt away and pass through Gletscherschlucht Rosenlaui, and as such, you can clearly observe and admire the beauty of nature. The huge waterfalls, bizarre rock formations, magnificent grottoes and the roaring of the water that gushes forth through the pathway created is music to the ears while the bubbles, foam, and whirling of the water is a sight to the eyes. The trail is safely created through 12 tunnels and rests at a height of 155 meters (508 feet) from the glacier and is 573 meters (1880 feet) in length. This ravine is also a World Heritage site declared by UNESCO.
