"The Beautiful Old Fountain"
One of the most beautifully constructed fountains, the Fountain of Ahmed III is known for its intricate designs and its connection to the heritage of the town. Originally a social centre and gathering place during the Ottoman period of Constantinople, the fountain today transports the visitor to the 18th Century. Built in 1728, the fountain lies in front of Bab-ı Hümayun, the gate of the Topkapi Palace and overlooks the square due to its position in the centre of the Ayasofya Square. The construction is marvellous and the primary structure which is placed on a floor with two stairs features an aesthetic view of various architectural works, such as plant motifs, decorations, muqarnas and palmets.
