Church-Mosque of Vefa

by Stilbes

"Brilliant Architecture"

Broken down yet historically important, the Vefa Kilise Mosque, located on the back of Istanbul’s third hill, in the district of Fatih is a significant representation of simplicity and beautiful architecture. Originally serving as a Roman Catholic Church, the structure was converted into a museum after the conquest of Istanbul. It was partially destroyed by fire in 1883, yet the mosaics and motifs discovered here are considered to be among the most important of such works today.
