This cosy café-bar, situated in a charming little 13th-century cellar, is to be found at Sint-Jacobs, one of Ghent's focal points. This is the ideal place for a good conversation. The music is not too loud, and even if you don't have anyone to talk to, chances are you will meet interesting people here. During the Gentse Feesten, the tiny square in front of 't Krochtje is the scene of parties that go on until 8 am, and sometimes even later...
Taking up part of the ground floor of the awful skyscraper Europacentrum in the very heart of Oostend, Feniks is a nice, very late bar.
Clientele consists of a rather strange mixture of friends of the young son of owner Dorinne (herself behind the bar, of course), of many British customers (a remnant of the former owner) and of local regulars.
For groups, and lovebirds there are comfortable seats, the average customer doesn't get further than the counter.
This young people's pub, is decorated as an American Bar with lots of Stars and Stripes, baseball-caps, Coca Cola paraphernalia, etc. Some people think it's original, others think it's kitsch.
No Elvis cd's played here! During the week the radio knob is set frimly one of the local commercial radio-stations and on weekend there are dj's to keep you entertained.
For the hungry there are snacks available until 2am. Their stock of whiskeys and bourbons is also rather impressive. But, if all this is not for you perhaps you would rather a game or two on one of the computer games.
Lots of people will say to you that tastes differ and that you, consequently, cannot talk about them. They are wrong.
I'll give you a couple of good reasons to go to Triton Karaoke. It is, of course, a very nice place if you like Karaoke (starts daily at 8pm). There are, consequently, always lots of very young people around there.
You can play pool and the place is open day and night. The only negative thing is that the place is rather large which makes it appear a little cold when there are not many people there.
There are a few very popular bars in the Langestraat where youngsters meet. Youngsters here means: people from fourteen to twenty years of age.
Desperado is one of these. The interior is made out of wood, the place is not very big, but that encourages friendships. The music is varied but tends towards rock (and not house). You can not only listen to the music and have a cosy chat with your friends but also play some modern touch screen plays.
So, don't worry: if you had to come to Ostend with your parents, you can still come to Desperado and maybe you'll find someone special.
Always very crowded!
