The Renaissance Providence Downtown is definitely one of Rhode Island's most stately and elegant places to stay. The Freemasons began construction on the massive edifice during the Roaring Twenties, but with the advent of the Great Depression, work came to a halt in 1929. It was abandoned for years until the city began to repair its sister building in the 1980s (the adjoining Veteran's Memorial Auditorium) and in 2004 revitalization began on the 'Temple.' The hotel renovation maintained the original facade built in Greek-Revival style so its architecture is still very apparent upon its facade. Inside however, the interior is entirely new and all of the well-appointed rooms contain the amenities in which the Renaissance brand is known to provide its guests, such as luxurious bedding and toiletries, video games and even a wet-bar. Most of the rooms also have great views of the Capitol Building and its location is ultra-convenient for venturing out on foot to explore downtown.
The Christopher Dodge House is a historic Italianate mansion that has been converted into one of the city's best B&B's. Its location on Holden Street is in a residential neighborhood, but it's still close enough to downtown to make it convenient. The room rates differ from standard, superior and prime. The standard offers comfortable amenities, while the some superior and prime rooms have fireplaces and kitchenettes. The B&B also has superb packages; the 'Romantic' and 'Taste of Providence' are two of their best, both offer restaurant gift cards, chocolates and great accommodations.
This Greek-Revival mansion is located a few miles south of downtown Providence and it provides luxurious guestrooms for those seeking accommodations outside of town. The rooms have two-person Jacuzzi tubs, cable TV and all are decorated with a Victorian flair. Here guests will find stained-glass windows, fireplaces throughout, as well as period antiques and art that adorn this restored romantic 15-room retreat on the edge of the city. Edgewood Manor of course serves a gourmet breakfast each day and afternoon tea. Overall, a nice place to stay when you want seclusion from Providence.
