Loppen has in its fairly short history fought against violence, close-down threats and aversion, but has survived because of the strength of its non profit-making organization. With its location in the free city of Christiania, just next to Pusher Street, these conflicts may come as no surprise. Overcoming all odds, Loppen has fought for the good reputation it has now achieved. The club aims at a minimum of four concerts a week, in which the style is rock as well as alternative and pop. Some famous names on the program in the past have been The Verve, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur and The Cardigans. For bigger international concert names, tickets can often be booked in advance through Billetnet or Sex Beat Records.
The Charlottenborg Palace was constructed in 1672-83 in Dutch Baroque style for Ulrik Frederik Gyldenlve. Queen Dowager Charlotte Amalie bought the palace in 1700 and gave it its present name. The main building facing Kongens Nytorv was built in 1827 by C.F. Hansen, and contains the Fest and Antiksalen Halls. Charlottenborg is home to the Royal Danish Academy of Art, as well as a library with a sizable collection of literature on art. First and foremost, this is the place for new and established artists to have their exhibitions, and houses the contemporary art repository Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Charlottenborg is also famous for its spring show, Forårsudstilling, an open, censored exhibition of work in painting, crafts and architecture.
Bakken is one of the world's most popular and the oldest amusement park in the world. Similar to Tivoli, Bakken is located in the very scenic area of Dyrehaven. Back in the day, people visited Bakken to drink from the Kirsten Piils Spring in order to be cured by its waters. There is an outdoor stage where artists and performers entertain the audience. Best loved perhaps is the park's mascot clown Pierrot, who performs at his little house several times a day. A visit to Bakken is often combined with a wonderful walk in the Dyrehaven.

This beautiful building was commissioned in 1885 and designed by H.W. Brinkogff. Situated just by Rådhuspladsen, the Cirkus building burnt down to the ground in 1914 and was reconstructed in 1915. From that time on, several circuses have used the building as their performance place during the winter season, especially the Benneweis and Schumann families. Today the building is also used for concerts, theater performances and sports events (such as badminton or boxing). The building was totally restored in 1982-84, and presents itself today in its original form, with ornaments by sculptor Frederik Hammeleff. An example is the Alexander frieze that represents classical horseracing.
This is a small theater for the smallest of audiences, sometimes recommended to be not for children older than two. Since 1966 Det Lille Teater has made kids scream and gasp and laugh their hearts out. It offers an excellent introduction to theater.
Vartov is a 17th-century building located in the heart of the city that was originally used as a hospital. Today this majestic building is the hub of local events, conferences, lectures, and also houses a number of corporate offices. The brick-wall facade and tiled sloping roofs are an excellent example of ancient Danish architecture making this historic building worth a visit when in Copenhagen.
