Loppen has in its fairly short history fought against violence, close-down threats and aversion, but has survived because of the strength of its non profit-making organization. With its location in the free city of Christiania, just next to Pusher Street, these conflicts may come as no surprise. Overcoming all odds, Loppen has fought for the good reputation it has now achieved. The club aims at a minimum of four concerts a week, in which the style is rock as well as alternative and pop. Some famous names on the program in the past have been The Verve, Smashing Pumpkins, Blur and The Cardigans. For bigger international concert names, tickets can often be booked in advance through Billetnet or Sex Beat Records.

Apollo is Copenhagen's first brewery and restaurant, located next to the Tivoli Gardens main entrance. Live jazz performances occur on the first Sunday of every month, accompanied with a special menu. The beer is cloudy and delicious, as it is both unfiltered and unpasteurized. The restaurant offers a small but varied range of dishes, some containing beer. If you come in the daytime, you might see the brewer himself working by the handmade copper pots, always eager to answer your questions about his beer.
One of the first champagne bars to open in the country, Balthazar, located within the Hotel D'Angleterre is an extremely elegant affair. Blacks engulfs everything in sight from the sleek long bar and sumptuous chairs to the wall paneling against the white walls. The purple banquettes by the windows are the only break in the black and white theme. Ornate classical chandeliers add to the refined decor. With no less than 160 bottles on offer, the champagne selection at Balthazar is truly extensive and enough to satisfy even the most discerning connoisseur. Apart from this, you can enjoy unique champagne cocktails as well. Accompanying your spirits is a choice of light bites that includes caviar. DJs spin lively tunes on Fridays. Check website for more.

This might look like a traditional English pub from the outside, but it isn't; it is Scottish. Kilts, fishing equipment, bagpipes leave you with no doubt. You can choose from 70 different whiskeys, ranging from ordinary Johnny Walker to 25 year-old Bowmore, a single-malt. The clientele consists mostly of 30-somethings drinking McEwans (of course). Live music is played every day.
In the earlier days, this area was a known haven for prostitutes. To avoid rumours that Husmanns Vinstue was a brothel, Adelaide Husmann (a woman) totally banned women from entering her bar. It was finally lifted in 1953, but until 1981 women were allowed only when accompanied by men. Today, Husmanns Vinstue is a classic wine cellar and pub, and offers the same ambience it did in 1907, when Husmann was still around.
One of the country's oldest gay bars, Centralhjørnet is a relaxed space offering a lively calendar of events and some of the friendliest staff in town. From drag shows and fun theme nights to live piano and jazz, there's something always happening at the bar.
