Located in the southeastern part of Malmö, the Inkonst aims to be the focus of all cultural activities in Scandinavia. This cultural center is housed in a building that was a former chocolate factory, and it still continues to spread sweetness in the neighborhood, but through art. Inkonst is the host of almost all culturally prominent events in the region, from classical music concerts, to film screenings and other such cultural events. On their premises, they have three venues where these events can be organized. The Teatern, or Theater, has 222 seats and has excellent sound and video equipment. The Klubben, or the Club, comes with soundmixers, microphones, equipment for DJs and even projectors. Please see the website for further information.
Established in 1934, Drop Inn is perhaps one of the city's oldest rock bars, and still packs a punch with live performances happening six nights a week. A quiet place for coffee and light bites by day, the venue transforms into an electrifying venue at night, with some of the best local musicians taking stage. While rock bands dominate the program, the venue also makes space for an occasional jazz and blues performance. The drinks selection goes beyond the standard beer and wine, offering a fine choice of whiskeys and rum. Check website for upcoming artists and more.
Live performances from up and coming musicians, cheap drinks and food are the norm at the Studenterhuset Copenhagen, which operates as a café by day and a bar at night. The crowd here is typically young university students, both Danish and internationals, from all the universities across Copenhagen. It is a great spot to visit to catch live local music from rising artists or to hear music spun by a DJ, almost everyday of the week. Tuesday is BLUS, gay club, night beginning at 7pm, which typically features a DJ. International night is on Wednesdays at 7pm. Thursday night live music events alternate between jazz, indie, pop and rock music. Fridays and Saturdays are live music concert nights with varying types of music. Swing Sundays are at 2:30pm and features music from the 20 s and occasionally a band.
Masken or the Mask is a cozy hangout for gays and lesbians with a taste for cheap beer and backgammon. The atmosphere is relaxed and the bar is a good place to start off the evening. The location is also convenient, with several bars within short walking distance. Cozy, with subdued lighting, the bar also has good and cheap draught beer.
Culture Box is a hot and happening nightclub where people meet to revel in the beauty of the night and sway to good music. Sip on a drink as you groove to the rhythms of the night and meet new people, or simply lounge around at the intimate bar. Witness art, fashion and cultural events as well as film screenings on certain evenings. The club is also an ideal space for hosting business events and parties.
