Mustang Island State Park

A coastal paradise par excellence, Mustang Island State Park is a stunning jewel embedded on the Gulf of Mexico. Believed to have been formed by sedimentary deposits, this state park features swathes of sand dunes intermingled with pristine stretches of beaches. The park's name comes from mustang horses that the Spaniards brought over when the land was first settled, hundreds of years ago. What was once a habitat of the indigenous Karankawa Indians, is now an idyllic sanctum which is a treasure trove of activities like swimming, kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching and more. Open to the public since 1979, the state park harbors a variety of wildlife like raccoons, hawks, jackrabbits, and coyotes, as well as plenty of waterbirds, shorebirds, and songbirds.

Bob Hall Pier

Named after Texan Senator Bob Hall, who is also known by the name Robert Lee Hall, this pier is one of the major attractions in the city. Offering activities like fishing, surfing, driving on the beach and opportunity to indulge in water sports, Bob Hall Pier is the place to be for people of all ages looking to do something fun while in the city. Extending into the Gulf of Mexico, the Bob Hall Pier is also an ideal spot for watching sunset and taking in the sweeping view of the waters.

Padre Balli Park

This camp site is open all-year round and it provides more than 370-acres of beautiful coastline under the warm Texas sun. It's a superb place to pitch a tent and 'glamp' (glamour camping) because the park has water and electric connections which make it much more convenient than most campsites. The other facilities are comprehensive as well, with the Briscoe Pavillion, guests can host parties and events and on the Bob Hall Pier, they can try their hand at fishing over the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally, at the park office, visitors can take a hot shower for a fee.
