This west Dublin shopping center offers little else that isn't already available close at hand, so it's hardly worth the trek out to Tallaght, unless you're in the area. The Square's main attraction, however, is undoubtedly the multiplex UCI cinema which plays all the latest releases on twelve screens. There's been an increasing incentive on behalf of Dublin Corporation to bring people out of the city and into the suburbs, so if you're staying in Tallaght be sure to also visit the very fine Civic Theatre nearby.
The recently refurbished Powerscourt Townhouse is one of the classier shopping centers in town, favored by upwardly mobile types and those who enjoy the finer things in life. This center is exclusive, luxurious and designer-orientated, with several interesting restaurants and a glass-roofed atrium used for recitals, jazz evenings and fashion shows. The key tenant in Powerscourt is the excellent Design Centre, which showcases the best Irish designers; it has recently been joined by branches of French Connection and Karen Millen, as well as several excellent cafes. The shops stock the latest trends in fashion, jewelry and Irish crafts.
This shop predates the current craze for aromatherapy and holistic medicine and it still has the homely ambiance of a 70s co-op, complete with fliers for yoga classes and enthusiastic staff offering sage advice. There's a large selection of quality supplements in addition to the usual organic and vegetarian foods.
This place seems newer and less hippy-ish than the stereotypical health food store. The staff are friendly and eager to answer questions or give advice. The selection isn't huge, but it's well chosen and certainly adequate for the casual vitamin shopper.
Blink and you might miss this market. The entrance looks a bit like the downstairs of a car park—brightly lit with one or two old shopping carts and no sign of anything else. If you persevere, however, you'll discover an amazing treasure trove of Asian culinary delights. If you are trying any Eastern cooking, this is the place to find that elusive ingredient. With its interesting assortment of Asian artifacts and wall hangings, it's a great place to hang out.
