Königshaus am Schachen

A beautiful mountain refuge built by King Ludwig II in the 19th Century, Königshaus am Schachen reflects his interest in oriental culture, particularly Turkish culture. The large hall is opulently decorated in reds, golds and oranges with beautiful Turkish textiles, divans, and an indoor fountain which contrasts with the surprising simplicity of the Swiss chalet. The Königshaus am Schachen is accessible only via foot or mountain bike, and avid hikers traverse this beautiful trek to witness the unique site. Guided tours of the building are available through the day. The nearby botanical gardens, which feature beautiful Alpine flora and fauna, are also worth visiting.

AlpspiX

Shaped in the form of a giant X, the AlpspiX is a viewing platform made of steel on top of the Osterfelderkopf, a mountain summit situated near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The design of the platform was made in order to provide spectacular 360-degree views of the entire region. Located at a stunning height of 2050 meters (6725.7 feet), the platform offers dramatic views of the region unlike any other place in the Alps. Owing to its breathtaking location and unique features, the AlpspiX is a must-visit attraction in town, whether you are a leisure traveler or an adventure seeker.

Staffelsee

Staffelsee is located in the Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and fed by the River Ach, which is also the main outflow of the lake. The lake has three important settlements upon its shores, namely, Murnau, Uffing and Seehausen. The lake covers an area of 7.66 square kilometers (2.96 square miles) and has a maximum depth of 39.4 meters (129 feet). In summers it's warm waters make the lake a popular spot for swimming, while in winter, the frozen lake is used by skaters and ice hockey players.

Formerly the St.Mang's Monastery, built in the 9th Century for the Benedictine monks and later turned into an imposing Baroque Church, the building now houses the Fussen Heritage Museum and the Town Hall. The museum is a perfect place to start your exploration of Fussen's cultural heritage, as it houses a vast number of artifacts from over 1000 years of history including a fascinating display on the craft of Lute building built around Karl Leonhardt's collection, which Fussen was famous for till the 1800s. The building itself is a testament to Fussen's heritage, the main hall, refectory, cells, and the domed colloquium beautiful examples of architecture; as well as the stunning paintings and archaeological pieces that can be found in its permanent collections. The Fussen Heritage Museum is an absolute must-visit while in Fussen.
