This is one of the liveliest pubs in this part of Galway. The subdued façade belies the fact that there is usually a spirited crowd within. Foot tapping abounds here when local musicians play at weekends. When there is a big hurling match showing on the big screen TV, Whiskey Joe's becomes even more boisterous.
Stop by John J. Burke's for a traditional Irish meal with a view over the magnificent Mount Gable. The restaurant features a bar, formal dining room and balcony overlooking a splendid garden and the mountains beyond. On the menu you will find a variety of traditional seafood, poultry and meat dishes, alongside homemade baked goods and a full bar selection. The food is deliciously simple and the service in friendly, inviting you to linger at the table or dance along to the music with family and friends.
This bar is situated on possibly the most beautiful of the Aran Islands — Inis Oírr (Inisheer), accessible by ferry from Doolin in Co. Clare or Rossaveal on the Galway coast. The same family has managed this pub since the late 1800s, long before there was draught Guinness. The great-grand nephew of the original owner is the current manager. There is always a welcome in this nostalgic little pub whether you are a local or visitor. Open from monday to thursday and open on fridays to saturdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm and on sunday from 10:30am to 11:30pm.
