Montreux Railway Station was built to serve as the main railway station of the charming town of Montreux and was opened in 1861. It also serves as the western terminus of the GoldenPass Line narrow gauge railway lines to Zweisimmen and to Rochers de Naye. Along with its idyll location on a hillside overlooking the Lake Geneva, it is also one of the rare stations that is served by three different rail gauges. This graceful lake is often visited by both locals and tourists as it offers splendid views of the neighboring valleys and peak. Needless to say, the lake is surrounded with natural vegetation.
Situated above Erlenbach im Simmental and below Mt. Stockhorn is the small mountain lake called Oberstockensee. It is a quiet place and a location for solitary fishing in summer. Most of the equipment including the lures and hooks has to be bought but the rods are offered for rent at Middle Station. A maximum of 6 fish are allowed to be caught by each individual. Visitors can also take a stroll around the Oberstockensee Lake.
Bisse de Sion is a culmination of peaceful and beautiful drains that form a water outlet from the mountain stream. The routes formed by these bisses give rise to fertile grounds that in turn help pastures, fields, vineyards and orchards to flourish. These bisses are used to this very day and maintained so as to continue flow of fresh mountainous water. Bisse de Sion has about 27 water outlets. Apart from flora growing in excess here, these water outlets also have a hiking path made along side it where you can come and enjoy the serene voice of water flowing downstream while breathing in fresh air and viewing the scenic beauty around. Events like wine tasting, cow fights, etc. are held here during different seasons.
Lac de Darbon lies at a height of 1813 meters (5948 feet) in the mountains of the French Chablais. To its north is the Dent d’Oche and to the south, a picturesque view of the Cornettes de Bise. Visitors can hike up to the lake from Chalets de Bise, a gentle circuit of around six hours. The glacial lake covers a surface area of 2 hectares (5 acres) and has a maximum depth of 8.2 meters (27 feet). The hills are home to mountain goats and sturdy cows.
