Buffalo Bayou Park

Buffalo Bayou Park is a lush 160-acre park (64 hectares), where everyone can come to soothe the senses. Eleanor Tinsley Park, located within the park is host to many of Houston's festivals and a variety of activities. Experience a canoe trip, or a walk with a loved one through the beauty of this park. The park also has a play area for children, a dog park, sculptures and fountains throughout and also includes bike trails.

Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

Standing stoically among 18 acres (7.28 hectares) of oak trees, the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park (formerly known as Williams Water Wall) has amazed visitors since its 1985 opening. The Waterwall sends 78,500 gallons of water down its face every three hours, utilizing a recycling mechanism that continues the torrent until the lights are turned off at the end of the day. Visible from many of downtown Houston's buildings, this attraction has become something of an icon with locals. Perfect for a romantic stroll, picnic, or reflective moment, Williams Water Wall is a great stop in the area.

Sheldon Lake State Park

This pleasant lake in East Houston is a citywide favorite for a little dose of the great outdoors. The park has several features, the most obvious of which is Sheldon Lake itself. The lake is open to the public and mostly used for fishing, wildlife spotting and boating, although there are some regulations concerning boat horsepower. Finally, the John Jacob Observation Tower is an 82-foot tall tower providing expansive views of the lake and park for miles and miles in every direction.

Levy Park & Dog Park

Levy Park & Dog Park is a cultural and recreational hub, a place to meet, play, and rejuvenate. The park is beautifully landscaped and features a large event space, a lawn for some casual sports, a beautiful garden, a children's playground, a game room, and a large fenced dog park. The kids love this park, the dogs are in a world of their own, and the adults have plenty to keep them occupied. If you're lucky you could also get a chance to enjoy some great live music. This place is a true Houston gem and should not be missed when visiting the city.

Historic Market Square Park

Market Square Park is a brimming center located at Downtown Houston's Historic District. A prominent landmark, the park served as an open air local market. The park comprises a bow-shaped dog run, a brightly lit walkway path and plenty of open space to relax. Visit the Houston's Niko Niko's to delight yourself with the outdoor seating, a performance plaza, and a Greek and American favorites. Do visit the Lauren's Garden, a memorial built to commemorate Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas - a passenger on United Flight 93. Occasional live entertainment, events and community activities makes this place a vibrant gathering spot for locals.
