The Rand Society for Model Engineers has been in existence for over 70 years. Situated in the suburb of Florida Park, steam engine enthusiasts from all over Gauteng gather here to build, test and ride their mini steam trains. The RSME also sports their own museum which houses the best collection of large stationary engines in South Africa as well as an extensive library. The museum is free to the public, but donations are always appreciated. The mini steam train track consists of a multi-gauge, ground-level track with two circular loops. The track ambles through the park, over hillocks and under and over mini bridges. A popular venue for kids' parties, a certified driver is always on hand to make sure everyone is safe and having a great time. The club is open every first and third Sunday of the month. - Zelda van Rensburg
