There's also the intriguing Dolphin Habitat. You will thoroughly enjoy watching the antics of these amazing creatures that love to show off for onlookers.
The fascinating past comes alive in this one-of-its-kind museum. Here, you will find everything from prehistoric fossils to an animated 35-foot (10.6-meter) Tyrannosaurus Rex. As for more modern monsters, there is a 3000-gallon (11,356-liter) aquarium with sharks that seem to be waiting for dinner. The learning process is enhanced with multimedia and hands-on displays, as well as live and mounted animals. One of the most popular displays contains live insects, including giant cockroaches. Another interesting event here is the weekly Shark Feeding, where the animal-care team feeds the huge sharks their favorite meals.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompasses 1.5 million acres (607,028 hectares) of land and water. The powerful flow of the Colorado River is interrupted by that famous feat of engineering, the Hoover Dam, thus creating Lake Mead, one of the largest man-made lakes in the western hemisphere. With over 750 miles (1,207 kilometers) of serene shorelines, Lake Mead National Recreation Area provides ample opportunities for fishing, with the waters of Lake Mead being superabundant with largemouth bass, crappie, rainbow trout, bluegills and channel catfish. Additional amenities include the park's campgrounds, picnic spots, boat and jet-ski rental services, hotels, restaurants, beaches and four different marinas.
This excellent planetarium offers special movie programs with titles such as The Explorers and Sky Watch. The screen features an Evans & Sutherland Digistar 3 hemispheric video projection system that creates virtual realities on the dome surrounding the audience. After night the telescopes at the student observatory will be available for viewing, depending on weather conditions.
One of the largest parks in Las Vegas, Sunset Park is popular for festivals and picnics. Eight outdoor lighted tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, picnic areas with barbecues, dog runs and even peace and quiet can be found here. There also is a fishing pond, popular mostly with children. The fishing is year-round, and in winter the pond is stocked with rainbow trout, and catfish in summer. There is a three-fish limit and children under 12 do not need a fishing license.
