Built in 1688 by Thomas Whittier, the great-great grandfather of John Greenleaf Whittier, the John Greenleaf Whittier Homestead was the residence and birthplace of famous American poet and abolitionist, John Whittier. Whittier lived on the property till his demise in 1892, post which the house and the surrounding farm was bought by James Carleton, a childhood friend of the famous American Quaker poet. Carleton donated the property to the Haverhill Whittier Club, which subsequently turned it into a museum dedicated to Whittier's literary works.

To view this home, you must go through the Currier Museum of Art to schedule a tour. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Zimmerman House in 1950 and his influence is noticeable in all areas of the house. From the exposed brick to the rows of bookshelves and built in furniture, this is a fine example of Wright's work. Don't forget to take a peek at the mailbox, Wright even designed that too! Please note that children under seven years of age are not permitted on the tour of Zimmerman House.

A riveting mosaic of museums, exhibits, historic houses, canals, and locks, the Lowell National Historical Park invites visitors to trace the history of the area in the context of the Industrial Revolution. The Boott Cotton Mills Museum is an integral part of the park. The Suffolk Mill turbine exhibit and the operating weave loom with its power looms are prominent examples of America's industrial revolution. The park chronicles the story of immigrants turned laborers accompanied by a guided account of industrial progress in the 20th Century. You can also learn more about the canals which are almost 5.6 miles long, trolley rides included.

Djinn Spirits Craft Distillery offers a seriously good avenue for whisky and gin lovers to indulge in their passion. Opened in December 2013, the distillery is owned and operated by Andy and Cindy Harthcock. The award-winning distillery is open to public visitation and offers guided tours as well. You can pick up their brews (provided you are above 21 years of age) at the end of the tour. Their tasting sessions are fun too! Their Vapor Infused Gin won the 2014 Winner Best of NH award and the distillery has been featuring in many prestigious newspapers and magazines.

The Robert Frost Farm was once home to the country's famed poet and writer, Robert Frost. Styled as most farmhouses would be in New England during that period, the white clapboard is marked as one of the country's heritage sites. Regular tours, displays, trails and even poetry readings are held here. An ideal place for a picnic, the house and associated grounds have ample area and parking although access to the two-story farmhouse is limited. Explore the house and grounds and delve into the mind of the poet who was most likely to have been inspired by this place.

Head to the Diamond Hill Farm to hike through the picturesque countryside and savor fresh, local food. This farm has five greenhouses for crops like raspberries and tomatoes and cultivates beans in the open fields. Befriend Llamas who graze on the grassy patches and purchase pies, milk, meat, cheese and eggs at their shop.
