For half a century, and three generations of the Canlis family, this gorgeous restaurant has presided on a hill over Lake Union. It beckons the well-off, those looking for a romantic evening, or anyone celebrating a special event. The restaurant has won awards too numerous to list, and a renovation has made it all the better. The cuisine is based on fresh ingredients, with salmon, scallops and Dungeness crab topping the menu. Vegetables are locally grown, as are the wide array of fruits used in each beautifully presented dish. The restaurant has a 12,000-bottle wine cellar.

Red Robin isn't the only place to get gourmet burgers in the Pacific Northwest. This similarly named burger joint has been voted "Best Burger" by the readers of the Seattle Weekly. The reasons are obvious, big juicy patties, fresh buns and crisp lettuce, not to mention fair prices. At this chic Red Mill Burgers joint, try the rich Bacon Deluxe with Cheese, the Veggie Burger or the Chicken Burger. The thick milkshakes and malts are nothing to sneer at either.
Located in quaint Madison Park, Cactus is bright and busy cantina. The tapas bar offers delectable small dishes including grilled portobello mushrooms and green chile soup. The sign and entrance to Z’s Burgers in Mukilteo can be a little confusing. For starters, there is the “Z’s Burgers” sign over one door in a strip mall and another sign in a totally different font and style that reads “A Taste of Americana” above the next door over. Whatever door you choose, you’ll find yourself inside a small burger joint with classic Americana memorabilia adorning the walls. At the counter you’ll find standard burger offerings as well as an excellent selection of gourmet specialties as well as local favorites, including the 747 Burger made with flame broiled, horizontally sliced hot dogs!
Amici Bistro is a very small, family-owned Italian restaurant in quaint Mukilteo. The décor is cozy, inviting, and candle-lit, and the service is friendly and warm. In one corner of the restaurant is a small bar, and in the summertime there is outside seating at cute little bistro tables. The food itself is standard Italian restaurant fare, not much different than you’d find at other Italian restaurants, although the prices are quite off-putting. And while the portions are large, it can be a bit hard to stomach unreasonable prices for a plate of Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Amici Bistro is easy on the eyes, but tough on the wallet. - Katie Kinney
A favorite breakfast stop for local Boeing and construction workers, the Mukilteo Speedway Café’s adorable entryway features a small breakfast bar with stools and a bakery case filled with homemade pies, cakes, and parfaits—and that’s just the entryway. The main dining room is nicely decorated with historical photos of the Mukilteo area. The meals served here are of the highest quality and are in no way reminiscent of the greasy slop served up by IHOP and Denny’s. The Mukilteo Speedway Café is only open for breakfast and lunch, so if you’re in the area early in the day, it’s worth stopping by.
John's Grill is a locally owned American seafood and steakhouse. The owner of the restaurant was the head chef for a number of years in some of Seattle's most well-established and expensive dining establishments. The food at John's Grill is perfect and simple, just what you would expect for a great steakhouse. The steaks are juicy and cooked to perfection without a lot of unnecessary extras taking away from the meat's flavor. The service is great with attentive, but non-intrusive wait staff. One warning though, John's has a $4.50 surcharge to split a meal. - Katie Kinney
Arnie's is the type of restaurant one might go to on prom night or take their grandmother to on her birthday. It's the type that's very fancy, in a sterile sort of way. Everything about the restaurant is so-so. There is probably a version of Arnie's in any waterfront town you'll visit: white linens, friendly waitstaff, and "ocean fresh" cuisine. That being said, the food and the dining experience are always good, but the very best thing about Arnie's is the panoramic view of the Mukilteo waterfront, Puget Sounds, and surrounding islands. So while the interior may be bland, the true star at Arnie's is the million-dollar view. - Katie Kinney
