Noritake Garden

The Noritake Garden was formerly called Noritake arts center. The garden is a patch of beautiful green that houses a Museum of Pottery and Porcelain in it. The garden is well landscaped and offers a neat trail through its environs. If you are tired of the hectic city life or simply want to explore the city, do not give Noritake Garden a miss.

Mt. Sanage

Mt. Sanage is a peak located on the outskirts of Nagoya which offer panoramic views of the neighboring Chuo Alps, Minami Alps, Mt.Hakusan, and Mt.Ena. This is a great place for hiking throughout the year, but the last days of spring and autumn are the best times to visit. There is a tiny mountain shrine situated at the southern foot of Mt. Sanage with the pathway leading to its entrance marked with stone. The shrine is also one of the peak's major attractions. Mt.Sanage's treacherous terrain and steep trails prove to be a stern test for even the most experienced of hikers.

Nagoya Nohgakudo

A modern facility for a classical art, this new theater is equipped with high-tech wireless headphones with explanations (occasionally in English) for members of the audience who need help understanding this highly stylized form of drama. A controversial feature is the natural, lush young pine, rather than the more traditional ancient sculpted tree, painted on the rear panel of the stage. Performances are usually held on weekends, the days and times, as well as admission charges, vary. There is a small museum inside, open every day, with a permanent exhibition on Noh and Nagoya Noh theater.

Nittaiji Temple

Nittaiji Temple is brand new as temples go, completed in 1904 (and rebuilt in 1984). But the significance of the site is momentous, if often overlooked. It houses some of the bones of the Buddha Shakyamuni that found its way to Thailand, parts of which were donated by the king of that country to be enshrined in Nagoya, for which purpose Nittaiji ("Japan-Thai Temple") was constructed. Do not miss the gold-leaf tablet inscribed by a more recent king of Thailand to commemorate the rebuilding of the temple in the 1980s.

International Design Center Nagoya

Design City is one of the nicknames Nagoya has assumed for itself; a moniker not too implausible considering all the industry concentrated in the area. That does not mean, however, that this multifaceted facility focuses on the more mundane aspects of design. With a multiple-purpose hall, gallery, library, and a museum with a permanent exhibit, all with state-of-the-art multimedia facilities, this center covers every conceivable aspect of the creativity of the human mind. Regular exhibitions, international seminars and events are also held here.
