The Tithe Barn or Grange aux Dîmes was used not only to store the grain collected as tax from farmers, but as the site of the Champagne Fairs where a form of wholesale, intra-European trading went on. These fairs flourished during the 13th century, and are one of the earliest examples of a European linked economy. They served not only as an exchange of goods, but of ideas as well. Today, the barn houses displays of various merchants and activities, and visitors can take a guided audio tour to learn more about the them and the what went on here during the height of the Middle Ages.
Situated just west of the Bois de Boulogne, Musée Albert-Kahn possesses one of the richest archives of early true-color photographs in the world. The former estate and collection of 20th Century banker and world traveler Albert Kahn became a museum in 1986, undergoing major renovations in 1990 and 2006. Rotating exhibitions of the color photographs Kahn had commissioned for his Archive of the Planet from 1909 to 1931 provide exciting glimpses into early 20th century life in many parts of the world. His love of travel and other cultures is also manifest in the themed gardens, where one can stroll through a forest of the Vosges, a Japanese village, a prairie, or an English garden, to name a few corners.

Next to the Jardins du Trocadéro, in a wing of the architecturally striking Palais de Chaillot, the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine is devoted to the appreciation of architecture throughout the nation. It is divided into three galleries, each showing an important aspect of this art form: the permanent collection shows a large number of casts and reproductions of churches and cathedrals all over France from the 12th Century on, as well as models of important buildings from the 19th and 20th Centuries. The third part of the museum is the mural paintings gallery. Experts in the field hail this museum as a testimony to the centuries of architecture in France. The permanent collection is often joined by temporary exhibits, contests, workshops and nighttime events. A café on the pavilion offers virtual visits on computer screens to continue experiencing the architecture while enjoying a meal or a snack.
