West Side Market brings together a group of more than 100 vendors selling their wares to locals and tourists alike. The heritage building housing the stalls was constructed in 1912 as an indoor marketplace and has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The market itself began operations in 1840 and is Cleveland's oldest public market. People come here as much for admiring the building's marvelous architecture as buying fresh produce and local specialties. Aromatic herbs, spices, oils, nuts, poultry, seafood and meat are just a few of the food categories found here. You can also shop for processed foods, baked items, fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy products and flowers. Groups can arrange a planned tour of the market in cooperation with the Market Office.
Big Creek Reservation is a sprawling piece of untouched forest, in the little town of Middleburg Heights. Under the care and protection of the city park council, this scenic woodland has been transformed into an educational and recreational center, offering a multitude of trips and activities to the masses. Featuring numerous walking and biking trails, picnic spaces, fishing facilities, playgrounds and trek routes, there's plenty to be indulged in for outdoor-enthusiasts. The council also organizes bird-watching and nature awareness trips, wherein visitors can spot, interact and learn about the local flora and fauna.
Nestled in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio, Beaver Marsh is scattered with wetlands. This area is a popular place to explore for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. This marsh is known for its calm and serene surroundings and is a must-visit for wildlife photographers. Visitors can take a walk or cycle along the boardwalk and spot a beaver or two at work. Other animals and migratory birds that can be found here as muskrats, bullfrogs, river otters, minks, turtles, ducks, blue herons and more.
Progressive Field (formerly known as Jacobs Field) is a fantastic facility created explicitly for baseball. It has become one of the well known landmarks of the city. With 122 suites and a seating capacity of 43,545, it is a great home for all of Clevelend's baseball heroes. Progressive Field is a very unique venue for holding events such as a meeting or a large-scale celebration. Gourmet catering is also offered and the meeting rooms are very well-equipped, as are the banquet facilities.
Lock 3 is an outdoor amphitheater that plays host to a variety of events in the summer months. Friday nights feature WONE's Free Admission Rock the Lock Concerts with the country's best tribute artists and Saturdays are Lock 3 Live! Concerts with touring artists. The Annual Rib, White and Blue Festival is held at Lock 3 in July, as well as Akron's Italian Festival and The National Hamburger Festival. In the fall and winter, Lock 3 hosts Ohio's largest ice-skating rink as well as the Akron Chriskindl Market.
Moored along the Cleveland coast of Lake Erie, the USS Cod Submarine is a National Historic Landmark that served during World War II. The submarine was built by the Electric Boat Company in 1942 and was involved in the first submarine-to-submarine rescue in 1945 that saved the crew of a Dutch submarine. Open between the months of May and September, you can climb through the narrow hatches to enter the living quarters of the crew and even torpedo rooms on the massive submarine.
