'World's Largest Cherry Pie' in Charlevoix, located on I-31, is one of the most popular attractions. The story goes that in 1976, Charlevoix won the National Cherry Festival's Largest Cherry Pie Contest, with a whopping 17,420 pound (7900 kilograms) pie baked under the leadership of Dave Phillips. Promptly a monument dedicated to this victory was installed featuring the actual pan used and a replica of a piece of pie. Although it lost title in 1987 to an even bigger pie in Traverse City (called the World's Largest Cherry Pie Pan), the site remains an interesting roadside attraction.
