Formed in 1974, the Asian American Arts Centre has been promoting and preserving the artwork and art form of the Asian Community in New York. The Art Centre has managed to create an archive of the art pieces they have collected since and many of them are showcased in exhibitions and events. Creating a platform for the artist and promoting the growth of the Asian community, this art centre is definitely worth visiting.
Hankinson-Moreau-Covenhoven House was built around 1752 by the Covenhovens and was occupied by Henry Clinton, a British officer, as his headquarters before the Battle of Monmouth in 1778. The ivory structure was added to the National Register Of Historic Places in 1974. Converted into a museum, it offers an insight into the lifestyle of the period showcasing artifacts from the period and a well-preserved interior.
Located near Tompkins Square Park, East Village Playhouse is a well-known theater production company in the area. This friendly theater hosts a number of interesting theatrical performances every year. This little theater is an excellent platform for local artists to showcase their talent. In addition to performances, they also host various workshops and activities to engage their visitors.
