Queen's Square

Queen's Square is another of Yokohama's modern success stories. Opened in 1996, it is almost a city in itself, combining business and commercial zones with cultural facilities. Altogether, it has a total floor space of about 500,000 sq. m. and houses specialty shops, offices, restaurants, a concert hall (the Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall), and the 485-room Pan-Pacific Hotel Yokohama. In the center of this huge complex there is an atrium that starts at B3 and goes up to the 5F. Take a walk along the Queen Mall, a huge shop and restaurant-lined passageway that runs right through Queen's Square linking the Landmark Plaza with the Pacifico Yokohama. If you do not want to do any shopping, stop by for a break in one of the many restaurants or cafes.

Okura

Okura, sister shop of Hollywood Ranch Market, specializes in traditional indigo-dyed clothing and accessories. The store is in a lovely old traditional building and the interior decor reflects a similar mood and style. The upper floor has women's clothing - you can buy traditional Japanese socks, kimono-motif shirts and tops; it's a fantastic place to get a gift.

Ginza Kazuya

Tucked away in a small corner, the Ginza Kazuya is a small haven serving heavenly artisanal sweets. The chef-owner here is a one-man machine - he does everything on his own, from purchase the ingredients needed to make his 'Kazuya no ren' (the base of all his sweet products) to greeting and serving his customers. He fills his sweets with a variety of local ingredients; Ginza Kazuya confections are very popular with locals and the initiated so call in advance to reserve sweets as production is limited. The shop might be a little difficult to find but in the end it is all worth the effort.

Blue Blue Yokohama

Near Osanbashi Pier is a small shop with interesting interior décor that sells clothing (with a nautical look) and souvenirs such as mugs, key chains, scarves, bags and jewelry. Quirky clocks and signs adorn the outside of the building. Inside, the small first room has old wooden floors that creak alarmingly. The back room has been decorated like a ship or warehouse with decorative objects such as old diving gear dotted about. Clothing includes T-shirts, sweaters, trousers and jeans. -AH

Uchiki Pan

Uchiki Pan is the oldest bakery still in operation in Motomachi. A talented British baker named Robert Clarke founded Uchiki Pan in 1888. A Japanese citizen named Uchiki Hikotaro worked with Clarke for several years and learned the art of baking English-style white bread. When Clarke returned to England, Uchiki took over the business. In 1906, Uchiki Pan advertised itself as "Purveyors to British, American, German, and French in the City every morning. 12,000 lbs. of bread turned out per diem." The tradition of delicious breads and fine baked goods continues today.

Landmark Plaza

Landmark Plaza, which is an annex of the Landmark Tower, consists of five floors packed with shops, restaurants and cafes. There is an abundance of boutiques, many specializing in famous brands. No matter what your preferences in clothes, you should be able to find something here. There are also shops selling novelties, accessories, stationery, cosmetics and beauty products, and books and magazines. The variety of restaurants and cafes is impressive. Whether you want a Starbucks coffee, a simple burger or a full course French meal, you will find something here.
