Costruita in tre anni a partire dal 1911, Casa Loma nacque dalle ambizioni del finanziere canadese Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Ispirandosi ai castelli europei, Pellatt cercò di impiegare le formidabili risorse a sua disposizione per costruirsi un grande castello nel cuore di Toronto; una dimora davvero degna delle aspirazioni del magnate. Costruita in stile neogotico, Casa Loma sembra essere uscita dalle pagine di una fiaba, ricca di passaggi nascosti e lussuosamente adornata di opere d'arte. Il castello dispone di 98 camere sontuosamente decorate ed è circondato da una splendida tenuta completa di giardino d'inverno, giardini e scuderie. I pilastri scolpiti della Great Hall, il soffitto a vetri colorati del giardino d’inverno, l'impressionante patrimonio di libri nella biblioteca e il tunnel sotterraneo che conduce alle scuderie esterne sono solo alcuni dei tanti tesori che caratterizzano la tenuta. Il trionfo di Pellatt fu però di breve durata, poiché le sue attività economiche si indebolirono all'indomani della prima guerra mondiale, costringendolo a vendere la sua casa. Oggi Casa Loma è un museo e un luogo di eventi molto frequentato.
Located near the city center in Toronto, the Distillery Historic District is a prominent area of the city where the Gooderham and Worts Distillery used to operate until 1990 CE. The distillery was touted as one of the biggest facilities in the world. After its closure, the Victorian-era buildings of the property became the Distillery District of today. Today, it houses many shops, restaurants and commercial complexes. However, the historic facade of the distillery is still intact and can be seen.
Just one street over from this trendy strip is the Ontario College of Art and Design, Queen Street West is one of the top shopping streets in the city. When young artists graduated and were desperate for cash, they would bring their treasures here to sell. Soon small shops stuffed with unique items began popping up on Queen Street West. Today, you can still find unusual gifts from cool clothing to antique comics either in the stores or from one of the many friendly street vendors. It's also a hot spot for restaurants and bars such as the Epicure Cafe, the Rivoli and the Queen Mother Cafe.
Toronto Parks run the Allan Gardens, one of the oldest parks in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This park area consists of a greenhouse, a playground and two fenced areas for unleashed dogs. The sections in the greenhouse are the Tropical House that has a waterwheel, rain tropical plants and exotic flowering plants. The Cool House has a waterfall, pond and citrus trees. The Palm House has bananas, bamboo, Screw Pine and the Cactus House. The garden is open all year round. Shows begin on the first Sunday of December when the garden has wagon rides, carolers, stands selling apple cider and cookies and the shows go on till end December. Spring brings in the blossoming season for several plants in the Cool House during Easter. The Fall show is held in the first weekend of November. Allan Gardens is a favorite spot for events like weddings and other celebrations.
Home to the Austin family for more than a century, Spadina House is now operated as a museum by the City of Toronto Cultural Services. Although some restoration has taken place, the original feel of the 55-room mansion has been wonderfully preserved, giving visitors a glimpse into a time when immigration increased and tabloid journalism had its beginnings (1918-1939). Established in 1942, St. George Macedono-Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church is one of the three Macedono-Bulgarian Orthodox churches in Toronto. Pape Avenue Cemetery, established in 1849 is the first and oldest Jewish cemetery in Toronto. It is officially known as Holy Blossom Cemetery. The cemetery rests many prominent residents of the time. Soldiers Tower is a Gothic Revival bell tower and clock at the University of Toronto constructed in memory of the members of the university who lost their lives in the World Wars. The tower is 143 feet (43.6 meters) tall and has a carillon of 51 bells. The structure has 12 window panels of stained glass and 8 small ones dedicated to students who lost their lives. The museum within the tower showcases medals, photographs and several other memorabilia. The Memorial Room has a stone-carved memorial for each of the carillon of bells.
The oldest Canadian Islamic centre in Toronto, the Jami Mosque building was purchased in 1969, which was formerly housed a church. Converted into a mosque, it has a beautiful architecture, that is reminiscent of the bygone era. Located at Boustead Avenue, in the High Park neighborhood, it still conducts prayers on a routine basis. The Bank of Upper Canada Building dates back to the 1830s era and is one of foremost financial buildings in this region. Awarded the status of National Historic Site of Canada, this structure is still extant.
Known as a home for the artistic people of Canada, the Studio Building was a great structure. Featuring a working studio that was of great importance in the Canadian heritage of art, the site was designated as the National Historic Site.
