Universitas Indonesia (Depok Campus)

Officially inaugurated in 1950, Universitas Indonesia prides itself as being the country's pioneer university. This campus in Depok provides facilities such as a gigantic multi-purpose hall, dormitories, sporting venues and even train stations. Although it occupies 320 hectares, about two-thirds is covered by a man-made lake and a conserved forest, which also doubles as a catchment area. On Sundays, some day-trippers and residents from the neighborhood come here to jog, tour the area or browse the sprawling bazaar. Peddlers sell hawker fare, clothes, souvenirs, curios and household items along some main roads and near the lake until 11a.
