"History Set In Stone"
The sub-subdistrict of Batutulis, which literally means inscribed stones, inherited its name from some 800 stones scattered around the area. One of them, the Prasasti Batutulis, finds home in a shrine. This particular relic bears inscriptions in old Javanese language, recording the ascendancy of King Prabu Purana of the Pajajaran Kingdom to the title of Sri Baduga Maharaja Ratu Hajj. (The ruling era of the kingdom is questionable; historians claim it was around 1333 or 1533.) The late President Soekarno admired it so much that he built a house just nearby, some say to draw on its spiritual powers.
