Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport
"Airport by the River"
One of the busiest airports in the state, the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, also known as Kansas City Downtown Airport, lies right at the point where the Missouri River curves on its course through the city. Once known as Kansas City Municipal Airport, as christened by Charles Lindbergh, the airport has had a successful history, partially due to the Trans World Airlines that used to be headquartered here, and also due to the airport's central placement in the country. Today, the airport comprises an area of approximately 700 acres (283 hectares), and boasts first-rate facilities and services like Instrument Landing System, hangars, leasing and charters of airplanes, and even car rentals.
