The Phoenix is what Yoshi's is to Oakland and The Blue Note is to NYC, most notably it is the city's number one jazz restaurant. Guests come down six nights a week to listen to a varied mix of jazz musicians from around town as well as those touring the U.S. The jazz hall also functions as a restaurant, so you can watch the show while you eat. They have a great happy hour from 3-6pm and on Saturdays their 'Bloody Mary Brunch' allows you to make your own Bloody Mary as you wish! Check website for complete calendar and show times.
Bier Station is a craft beer drinkers paradise, not only because it serves some of the finest craft beers in town, but it also has some insanely good food. The bar has 28 different rotating taps and a few are dedicated to 'session' beers (those with ABV lower than 5%). The menu features innovative twists on traditional classics like the bratwurst topped with Ponzu infused red cabbage and Wasabi mayo or the homemade pretzels served with jalapeno cheddar cheese. One other cool attribute to the bar is their website, they have a real-time tap menu to let drinkers know when their favorite beer is in or out!
If you like better-than-average pub grub and a nice single-malt scotch, there is no better place than Harry's. This unpretentious spot in the River Market area is always filled with happy locals out on the patio (when weather allows) with a beer or cocktail in hand. The jukebox and amply stocked whiskey bar are two other reasons why people love this place, the latter provides a whiskey menu that has almost every scotch imaginable. From the Highlands and Islay to the Islands and Speyside, you are sure to find one you like.
Located within Harrah's Casino, this is just the right venue to spend all of that cash you just earned at the tables. The venue dazzles with great lights, a fantastic sound system, and a hip and trendy crowd. The bartenders also mix up delectable concoctions and the owners try to bring as many nationally known DJs as possible during the week. If you wish to listen to live music instead of a DJ, VooDoo also features local and national bands within the two-story venue. Check website for details and more information.
There is almost nothing better than a great burger and a nicely crafted beer. Here at the Green Room, guests will definitely find both. The burger and fries menu has some interesting variations, try the Fiddler Fries made with jalapeno, bacon, cheese and a fried egg alongside the 'Dubbel Dubliner', a beef behemoth served on a pumpernickel bun. In addition to the delicious burger combos, the beer is equally phenomenal with at least six different rotating beers on tap throughout the week.

Who knew that a historic bar could be so fun? Kelly's Westport Inn is located in a 1850 building, which is speculated to be one of the oldest buildings in the city. Albert Boone, grandson of famous Daniel Boone, once owned a grocery store in the building and it was rumored to have been part of the Underground Railroad. Although this spot is now a national historic landmark the bar is known for its unpretentious attitude and hosting great events. You'll find a fantastic selection of beer on tap, including local brands, as well as TVs where you can watch sports while enjoying a pint.
Gilhouly’s is your basic neighborhood bar. Converted from what looks to be an old drug store, a long room opens up as you enter through the corner doors. The place is all brick and red leather booths, with three pool tables in the back. The staff is friendly, the lighting is dark, and the jukebox is stocked with hits from all decades. What makes Gilhouly’s unique? All the free self-serve popcorn you can eat out of an old movie theater popcorn machine. -Robin Sobteimer
