A steely charcoal pyramidal structure rising from the dense green thickets, the Hercules monument is a historical landmark located in Kassel, Germany. The imposing monument includes an octagon on top of which sits a pyramid and an impressive copper statue of Hercules. The monument, which can be found in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, was designed by Giovanni Francesco Guerniero and built between the years of 1701 and 1717. Visitors to the park can walk the 200 steps up to the top of the monument, where they will be met with a stunning view of the surrounding area, as the monument is the tallest spot in the park. The park, including the statue, is a dedicated UNESCO world heritage site.

Tierpark Sababurg

Spanning a massive 130 hectares (321.23 acres) of the lush forest landscape, Tierpark Sababurg is one of the largest zoological gardens in the country. Laid out in the 16th Century, the sprawling zoo is also one of the oldest in Europe. The lush areas and enclosures within the park are home to a wide variety of local as well as exotic species of fauna including bison, lynx, otters and mountain goats. Besides observing wildlife up close, children can have a whale of a time with the intriguing demonstrations and other activities conducted at the park.

Gänseliesel

Probably one of most iconic landmarks in the town of Göttingen, Gänseliesel is a bronze stature of a girl, also known as Goose Girl. There is also a strange tradition linked to this statue. Anyone who gets a PhD from the University of Göttingen climbs it and kisses the girl. In fact, it is a mandatory part of graduation. A romantic landmark, do take a minute to stop and admire this landmark.

Edersee

Covering a total of 11.8 square kilometers (4.55 square miles), Edersee is regarded as Germany's second-largest reservoir in terms of the area. Surrounded by a lush green landscape, it is a popular hiking destination amongst tourists and locals alike.

Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe

Easily the most prominent landmark of Kassel, Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is found on a hillside. Visitors can spend their time exploring the park's paths, soaking in the beautiful views or paying a visit to its museums. This landscape park is described as "possibly the most grandiose combination of landscape and architecture that the Baroque dared anywhere." by Georg Dehio, noted art historian. Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is an outstanding specimen of landscape gardening of Europe and construction of the gardens began in the early years of the 18th Century and went on for almost three centuries. At Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, you can find abundant special trees and plants, faux ruins, temples, Chinese pagoda and a Roman aqueduct.

Schloss Wilhelmshöhe

Schloss Wilhelmshöhe is a beautiful palace that was built in the 12th Century when it was used as a monastery. In the years following its construction, the palace went under major transformations, with the most significant restoration led by Simon Louis du Ry. German emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II was given accommodation here during the 18th Century. During World War I, parts of the castle were badly damaged. Renovations began shortly after the war ended. A museum was established inside the castle, as was the Ballhaus am Schloss Wilhelmshöhe. The castle still houses intricately beautiful pieces of furniture and ornate fixtures, and the gardens that surround the palace are equally breathtaking.
