One of the most ancient cave systems in the world, the Jenolan Caves are a breathtaking wonder of the country. Sprawling across an area of 3,083-hectare (7,620-acre), the magnificent karst cave system is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Blue Mountains. Several parts of the caves are still not accessible and only the experienced cave divers have been able to explore the complex cave system. Illuminated with electric lights, the cave has become a popular tourist attraction with sites like Grand Arch and Aladdin Cave. With guided tours and accommodations available, the cave is a haven for adventure seekers.

Three Sisters is a sandstone rock formation set against the majestic Blue Mountains range. According to legend, three Katoomba sisters were turned to stone by and elder after finding forbidden love with Nepean tribesmen. Intending to protect the sisters from the ensuing tribal conflict, the elder is said to have died in battle, sentencing the sisters to stone for life. A "Giant Staircase" leads to the Three Sisters observation plateau just past the site's Echo Point. From there, a one and a half hour hike continues through to the Katoomba Falls. If you're exhausted from the hike or overwhelmed by the beauty of the Three Sisters, take the Scenic Railway back to the observation point for a small fee.

The Greater Blue Mountains Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a massive expanse of plateaus, gorges, deep remote valleys, lakes and rivers. Its biodiversity is an example of the continent's rich fauna and flora. Home to rare species of plants and animals, the park is famous for one of the widest plantation of eucalyptus trees. When the temperature rises, the oils of different varieties of eucalyptus trees mix in the air and causes a visible, blue spectrum on the landscape. The area also includes eight protected lands such as the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve, Blue Mountains National Park, and Wollemi National Park. Apart from its impressive eucalyptus vegetation, the Greater Blue Mountains Area is also home to the Wollemi pine. Some of the endangered species living here are the Regent Honeyeater, Blue Mountain water skink, tiger quoll, long-nosed potoroo, and the green and golden bell frog.
