Kanalpackhaus

When the Schleswig-Holstein canal, the precursor of the KielCanal, was opened in 1784, warehouses were erected to facilitate the movement of goods. One of these impressive buildings is located at the entrance of the canal in Kiel-Holtenau. The building is listed and now hosts a fine restaurant and apartments. The extensive menu mainly offers fine German specialities with a special emphasis on fish dishes, and you can watch the ships go by on the canal while you are enjoying your meal and drinks. Antique sailing-boats regularly dock at the nearby Thiessenkai, so once you are in the ambience of the Kanalpackhaus, it is easy to feel as if you have gone back in time.
