River Fort

by Kglavin

"Unique sculpture to illustrate Listowel"

Local councillor and craftsman Tony O'Callaghan designed this unusual and creative sculpture. There are two separate elements that work together illustrating the ancient history of the town. A tall, rectangular standing stone has three curving lines carved on its surface. This depicts the River Feale, which flows around Listowel. A circular stone stands on its edge beside the standing stone. This represents an earthen fort that was the original settlement in the area.
