If dinner with a little bit of entertainment is what you have in mind, Trincas is just the place for you. All the other restaurants on Park Street have been unable to continue the tradition of live music and cabaret that once was the accepted and celebrated norm here. But, the live acts at Trincas reign supreme even today. Needless to say, it is absolutely adored among tired office-goers from around the area. It also happens to be one of the few restaurants serving pork preparations in the vicinity. The menu includes Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes and happy hours are there in the evening. This is a perfect place for some time out with friends, especially if you plan to hop into Someplace Else or HHI Underground later.
One of the original Park Street restaurants, Kwality is quite popular among locals. However, it fails to consistently deliver on its promise of quality. Although the menu boasts of both Continental and Indian cuisines, it is advisable to stick to ordering the Indian preparations as the Continental food tends to lack authenticity most of the time. The restaurant has a fully equipped bar and the Fish Masala Kebabs and Chicken Kebabs serve as perfect starters. North Indian specialties like Chana Bhatoora, Karai Chicken and Paneer Labadar are worth trying. The service is not excellent, nor is the decor. Come here only if you can't find a seat at Park Street's better offerings like Moulin Rouge, Maharaja or Magnolia.
One of many in the Park Street row of restaurants, Oasis is a 35-year-old establishment that was renovated and restarted in 2009 at its original location. Situated right next to Bar-B-Que, this two-tiered restaurant is simply decorated with splashes of turquoise and blue all around the place. It serves a variety of dishes from the Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisines. For starters, you can try Gold Coin and Tandoori Potatoes; Main course options include Chicken Kebab Masala, Rogan Josh and a variety of sizzlers. The place stocks a number of beer labels as well as other libations. The staff is very friendly and service tends to be quick and efficient. A great deal of care is taken to make customers feel at home; no wonder, we see people carrying on conversations long after their meal has ended. Private dining options are also available.
Every city has one after-hours joint that has remained a favorite over the generations and Olypub fills that spot in Kolkata. Fondly referred to as just Oly's, this low-key bar is teeming with people on any given night. As you enter the premises, you will notice a long flight of stairs which will lead you to the main seating area. There is another space at the ground level as well. The no-frills decor has been maintained over the years and probably even adds to the charm of the place. As the evening sun sets, the excitement within Oly's gains momentum. You can find all kinds of people here; tired executives, intellectuals, college students and tourists gather to chug their beers and indulge in animated conversations over a plate of the famous beef steak or the Chicken ala Olypub.
