Established in 1998, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is an attractive blend of modern architecture and traditional Islamic design. This gleaming white structure stands imposingly just next to the National Mosque and behind the Malayan Railway administration building. Housed within the center is an impressive collection of Islamic art objects from Malaysia as well as other Islamic countries. There is also a library and research facility for public use. After gaining its independence in August of 1957, the Federation of Malaya, the Malaysian federal government, decided to build the museum on the site of the old Selangor Museum. Construction began in 1959 and the doors opened in August of 1963. It is a place that houses and recounts Malaysia's rich cultural and historical heritage.

Housed within a historic building dating back to 1899, the museum hosts various exhibits like city maps, a scale model of Greater Kuala Lumpur and miniature models like the one of Dataran Merdeka and Masjid Jamek. Other exhibits include placards and photographs detailing and documenting the history of this vibrant city. Note that the admission price of MYR 5 also includes admission to The Spectacular City Model Show.
Housed in the official former residence of the fourth prime minister of the country, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the Galeria Sri Perdana is a great place to be for those who want to catch a tiny glimpse of Malaysia’s past. Showcasing awards, honors and gifts received by the then Prime Minister, the museum aims to foster a sense of closeness between the public and the Malaysian political leaders by uncovering the many struggles the prime minister and his family to as they contributed to the betterment of Malaysia. Islamic art, musical instruments and textiles are just some of the objects that can be seen on display here. Furnishings and home decor from the 1980s can also be glimpsed within the former house.
