Kyoto Prefectural Insho-Domoto Museum of Fine Arts
"Nihonga plus avant-garde"
Both a major Japanese-style and avant-garde painter, Insho Domoto [1891-1975] received the order of cultural merits in 1961 and was responsible for the contemporary architecture of the museum (established in 1965) located at the bottom of Kinugasayama. The museum was given to the Kyoto Prefectural Government in 1991. Noteworthy are the pieces titled Windows, Vimalakirti and A Symphony, which complement the sculpture that is also in the collection. The museum is within easy walking distance of Kinkakuji.
