Porta Nigra (translated as Black Gate) in the ancient city of Trier is a 2nd-century Roman city gate which, today, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Porta Nigra formed the northern entrance to the city and is the only surviving of the four gates as it was converted into a church dedicated to St. Simeon in the 11th Century.
