"Beautiful Park With Plenty of Activities"
The Val Joly is first and foremost a reservoir nestled in woodland, less than an hour outside of Lille. Spanning 180 hectares, there are a number of activities to take part in: cycling, windsurfing, horseback riding, fishing, target shooting and Flemish bowls.
Take a long hike around the lake and discover the abundant indigenous flora and fauna, or admire the arboretum containing over 500 species. Between April and November, a variety of entertainment is offered: there are cabaret evenings on Saturday nights, 'Joly Jazz', the Avesnois Jazz Festival in July, and the Fête du Berger (Feast of Shepherds) which takes place on August 15. There is a three-star camping ground, with 180 spaces, as well as 30 chalets to rent.
The walking paths are around 17-21 kilometers long - "experienced" walkers will find they take between four and five hours to complete. Call for further information.
